How to Order

Caps and gowns become available for pre-order in the months before graduation; there will usually be an e-mail sent out indicating when this will be. At this time, you may come in to the bookstore to order your graduation items; you can do this at the main counter. You pay for your items at the same time that you order them.

You will be asked to fill out an order form; you won't need your student ID for this, only some of your personal information, an idea of what you want to order, and you'll need to know what college you are in--i.e. your area of study, such as education, music, business, or art. This will enable us to give you the appropriately colored tassel for your degree. It would also be helpful for you to tell us if you are expecting to graduate with honors; we will receive our own list of honor students, but it will allow us to be doubly sure you get all of your items in time for graduation.

Picking up Your Order

Orders are ready during the week before graduation; at this time, come in to the bookstore and ask a staff member to help you retrieve your items. After you have them, you don't have to check out since you've already paid for them. Be sure to double-check the contents of your package before leaving to make sure you have everything.

It is not required that you have your student ID, but it is helpful for the staff so that instead of asking you to spell your name for us, we can use your ID to find your order quickly and easily.

If you ordered a graduation package but for whatever reason didn't pick it up, you may get a refund. If you come in later and want to get your package anyway, it is likely that we have already disassembled it, but we can put the contents back together using a record of your order, which we will keep for a time.

Color

The color of your tassel or hood depends on the degree that you are getting, tassels for bachelor degrees and hoods for masters (all master tassels are black). Additionally, students who have studied abroad--either by being a Whitewater student who has studied in a foreign country or by being from abroad and graduating here--are eligible to have an additional Internation Student sash. If you would like one of these, please let us know so we can order it for you.

Although we will pick out your tassels and hoods for you, here are the color representations:

Master's hoods come in the same colors, with the exception of the black. Each hood has two colors; the color of the degree, plus the purple of UW-Whitewater.

We also have faculty and doctorate supplies.
